Desktop vs Laptop
Status: Muse of thoughts
BGM: Passion - Utada Hikaru
Let's make some comparison between laptop and desktop.
Desktop is big and bulkier, while laptop is small and light.
On energy consumption, laptop consume less energy than desktop, which make it an ideal power saver.
Laptop is easier to be bring around, making it very convenient for people who needs to move around constantly. Meanwhile, desktop is hard to be carry around due to it's large size.
Until here it sounds like the laptop is better than a desktop.
However, desktop has it advantages too.
Desktop is relatively faster than a desktop, as due to it's size, it is able to provide near excellent air flow system to cool and maintain the desktop in moderate heat level, maintaining the efficiency of it.
Whereas for laptop, due to it's size, it is hard to have a powerful cooling system to cool it down, although there's external cooling system for laptops, it is still less efficient than the desktop cooling system - built-in cooling system.
Performance wise, laptop can hardly beat desktop, as desktop can be equipped with the most powerful hardware, while laptop will have it's limitation.
Well, both of them have their own pros and cons, and they both cater a different category of users.

Quantum Computers
Status: Blurry
BGM: Crank That -Soulja Boy (Alvin & the Chipmunk ver.)
Quantum Computers are said to be the next gen computers.
Apparently, when compared to the presently used computers, they could hold more data & process faster.
Currently, data in computers are processed with paralleled processing method.
Which practically means things are running in one same way, or one way method.
Meanwhile, quantum computer could run in a way that a few parallel system are ran simultaneously, greatly increasing the capability of a computer in handling high requirement commands.
Will that be the future of computing?

Hacker Wars
Status: Flayed
BGM: Iteza Gogo Kuji Don't be late
There's a recent hacker wars (competition): CanSecWest-2008 (March 26 -28), at Vancouver, Canada.
The hackers are to hack into 3 different notebooks, each with different system installed.
The system are: Vista Ultimate SP1, Mac OS X10.5.2 & Linux Ubuntu 7.10.
The results?
Well, the 1st to fall is... suprisingly, Mac OS X10.5.2
The reason? The hackers exploited a security loophole in the Safari Browser, and they hacked it within 2 minutes time. [On the second day of competition] After succesfully hacked, they gain control of the Mac Book Air.
Next is Vista Ultimate SP1.
It falls on the last day of the competition.
They attacked a security loophole in the Java system, and then successfully gain control of the
Vista system.
Ubuntu are safe even to the end of the competition.
Is it the safest?
Probally is, probably not.
There are some loopholes indeed, but the hackers think that those loopholes are too premature to be properly attacked.
There goes the whole wars.

Games & Physics
Status: Slightly-Impressed
BGM: My Heart Will Go On
Ever wonder how much games had evolved these days?
Truth is, it has evolved in a pace that most gamers found it hard to catch up.
Couldn't tell it? Well, look how fast the hardware sector evolved.
They even have physics cards now!
For what it is used for? To create real-life like physics effect in the game.
In older time of gaming (1998-2002), games usually are quite fake or surreal... like when you hit a building or a tank, it'll take the same damage no matter from which angle it got hit, and when it's destroyed, it goes by a blast, then it dissapear.
Now let's look at the more modern games (2006-now). I shall take the World War II themed RTS (Real Time Strategy) game, Company of Heroes, as the example.
When a tank is hit at the front, it takes less damage (due to thick frontal armor). When it's being hit on it's flank, it takes normal damage. When the rear is hit, it will take more damage than it usually does. And it doesnt die off in a simple blast. When it is critically damaged, it will either be it's engine damaged (reduced speed), Main Gun destroyed (It's cannon go silent), or gunner killed (machine gunner got killed off). When defeated, it usually blast off, leaving it's burned hull around, or before that happens, it goes out of control, run around and then dies, sometime crashing into friendlies, causing more damages.
How these all works are beyond me, but it is really impressive. I tell ya... this game's gonna make me go addicted once again!

M-Rated games... are they as bad as we think?
Status: Dumbfounded
BGM: The One - Backstreet Boys
In GTA IV, the players is able to steal cars, drives around, killing anyone, or challenge the police in various ways.
Gears of War 2 allow the players to slash people into half, whether it is from up to down, left to right or the total opposite, while players can also use corpses as meat shield.
These are downright violent, or morally incorrect to most of the baby boom generation.
As for the generation X, these are nothing: "c'mon, it's just a game".
Some politicians even slams these games, vowing to ban them and sue the game makers. [The truth is, it's just another way of publicity for them ( -_-|||) ]
Are they really bad for us?
Not exactly.
Various study found that although violent games will no doubt have some effects on the player, it is not likely to be the main cause of causing the gamer to be violent. Look from another side: the players of violent games might be having some degree of violence within them even before they play the games.
Until now, there are no sturdy proof showing that violent games will affect the players and cause them to be violent.
So don't be worry, let us sit down and enjoy playing GTA IV as much as we can. =D

What I feel about Comtech...
Status: Uber High
BGM: I got music playing in my brain!
It's almost the end of t3h semester now.
ComTech is such a lovely subject, and Mr. Avila is such a lovely lecturer.
The part I like about him is that he constantly suprises us with lots of gifts, mostly on the time that we never expect them.
And the presents make us cry in touch, so much that our tears run dry.
And it make us so happy until we can die of happiness.
It's such a enjoyable subject that I'll recommend my friends in the course to take up this subject.
And seriously saying, It's really nice! Come join the partay!

Handphone - the inseperable one
Status: Feeling a little bit sarcastic right now
BGM: Random ringtone music echo-ing within my brain
20-50 years ago us human are using normal phones to contact each other.
And thus whenever one leaves home, it might take forever to contact em or find em.
Sad right?
Now the problem is solved.
Handphones are all over the place, where handphone is a must-have tool for urban human.
The bane is, what will happen if one day this technology simply dissapeared like it's never been invented?
Could we human still survive normally without it?
And oh, the ironic part, I love em. - 30 years ago we have problem looking/contacting a person. Soon we would actually track them through their handphones. And 3G technology with the video call function virtually makes us unable to hide our track.
Soo much sacrifice for the sake of technology.
And I think, I'm one of the victim of technology too. Sighs.

Lately I enjoyed hanging out with a bunch of a friends in midnight.
It's just so interesting just to listen what they've got to say.
And the particular thing that interest me the most is that the way they mess around with their handphones.
They just love messing with handphones... to an extend they'll do all kinds of weird modification on their phone.
They talk like professional... yet when a question pops up, it pops the bubble.
"Eh i dunno how to do it lah, you know how ah?"
The LOLness, I tell you...
How human acts never cease to amaze me, even when they were dealing with technological stuffs.

My source of Tech News

BGM: My Prayer - BoA
In this age of web 2.0, information are lying all around the web waiting for someone to obtain them. However... we're not sure about what information we'll get sometimes... or is it reliable or not... as there's a lot of false or inccorect information out there. As for me, I'll get my tech info from some reliable website such as Cnet & Lowyat.net, and among these, Cnet will be my favorite.

Oh crap why I talk with such a serious tone. @_@ Too much essay writings these days thanks to the stupid OSSLT... what a nuisance.
Ok back to the topic. Well as you can see, Cnet (http://www.cnet.com/) is one of the most famous website for anything related to technology... and that's not the end. It's subsites includes the famous Download.com (http://www.download.com/), GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/), GameFaqs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/), and many more.
Well, with so many topics and sites, I could hardly find myself running out of topic... the only problem with my blog is, well, lack of constant updates due to my laziness... =x
On a side note, my life-records blog is like... soo dead by now. Maybe it's time for me to give it some revival spark. Let's hope I would not procrasinate again...

I guess I should put in more initiative in this subject. Meh. And workout my timetable planning... Well, the truth is, I always end up rushing everything at the last minutes. Bad habit. =A=

BGM: I cant get over your best smile - Kotoko
Ever wonder how great is the 'affection' of MMORPG?
Well, to tell the truth, it is soo great.
Too great until I could hardly resist them.
I remember that I've sworn not to get addicted to any online games anymore, and yet everytime I does that, there will be an online game out there that is seducing me. Ah crap.
One of the fun part about the online game is not just only the gameplay. The gameplay does count, yes, but it's the atmosphere that makes u get addicted.
1 of the main reason i get addicted is not just because of the uber nice graphic the game has, it is the way I enjoy gaming with other gamers that count. Talk about enjoying chatting while getting your character level up. It's just fun. So fun that words could hardly describe the feeling.
Since this is still on the closed beta stage, I could still have some control over my time of gameplay.
Yet I wonder how far would I go for it once the full-time open beta goes online.
Let's just hope I wont go as far as forgotting all of my college assignments. Meh.

How Pakistan knocked Youtube offline... LOL!
Status: Overactive
BGM: Endless Story - Yuna Ito
Apparently, Youtube got knocked out from the global internet for like, 2 hours.
And how the hell did that happens?
Well, it seems like an order issued from the Pakistani Government to block the site has been given out to the main ISP provider in Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecom.
And by accident or design, the Pakistan Telecom gone as far as claiming the IP of Youtube, claiming themselves to be the legitimate destination for anyone who is trying to reach Youtube range of websites.
And that causes quite an uproar. According to one of the employee of PCCW, the Service Provider that provides internet link to Pakistan Telecom, they have recieved a flurry of phone calls from global ISPs wondering what is going wrong. A call from Youtube representative was also recieved. And the most suprising part is, even Pakistan Telecom contacted PCCW.
It's seems like even the culprit doesn't know what they have done. Wow. Seems like they have accidentally knocked Youtube offline... brilliant.
Youtube responded with countermeasures within minutes after the incident begans, as their traffic-tracking system picked up something abnormal. They initially try to reclaim their network by narrowing the broadcast from 1024 to 256. 11 minutes later, YouTube goes on a more specific additional broadcast, claiming just 64 address, which is more specific under the Border Gateway Protocol, overruling the Pakistani one.
And after 2 hours of the initial false broadcast, the mayhem is finally stopped.
The whole thing wouldn't be happen if A technology like Secure Border Gateway Protocol was used. Yet it was hardly used because the modems that usually recognize this are pretty costly.
Maybe this would act as a speed-up catalyst for the use of this technology.
Security in the world of Internet is like unexisting for the moment being. Anything could happen, so best watch ur back.

When is the last time u choose Google Docs and Spreadsheet over Microsoft Words and Excel?
Well, maybe we havent advance into that stage yet, but seriously, changes are going around us now.
Maybe in the next 10 or 20 years Microsoft Office will rarely be use by home user.
Web appliences might be taking over their position, as they might just be easier to use, and the good thing about it is u could access it in almost anywhere with a web connection.
Well, it's easier to say than to be done. Consider what will happen when there's no web connections or web connections went down like last time when the earthquake hit the sea and broken all the optic fiber cables, leaving us unable to connect to the outer world.
And before anyone says software is dead, let's have a look at Microsoft's Sales Figure. Microsoft Office 2007 is a big hit, increases in a rate of almost doubling it's predecessor, Microsoft Office 2003. Now what? Software is dead?
There's still a long way to go for software, at least for this century, probably. Software is dead? Maybe not yet.

Downfall of Conventional Media Storage

BGM: Ash Like Snow - The Brilliant Green
There's a prediction to this: In the next 10 or 20 years, DVD, tapes and similiar media will be gone from the world.
Why?
Because there's gonna be a new way for us to get the latest movie and musics.
By downloading them to our computer! No more CD, DVD or Blu-Ray.
Maybe it'll be replace with microchips like SD card.
They are much more stable compare to Conventional Disc.
And it's painfull when a new media format is released, u're gonna change all ur favorite movies format by buying them again.
And that sucks.
Well now, that would happens no more. Maybe u'll juz to convert the video into new format or exchange ur old format ones with the new format ones.
Now that's an easier and less painful way. Just let's not talk about what will happens when a hard disk or a storage device get corrupted or go bonkers.
What will the world be in the future?

This is juz soo not my week. =A+;;;
Can anyone please help strangle me?
Or be kind enough to sent the HDD to the Comp Lab's Lost & Found Department...

HD-DVD is Dead. Love live Blu-Ray!
Status: Awkward?
BGM: Pieces of Dreams - Chemistry
Toshiba officially announced they are going to reducing the production and shipping of HD-DVD and generally, stop producing it. They realized that HD-DVD is losing the war and pull the plug fast before there's more losses coming their way.
One of the main reasons for their losses are that they did not had as much support as the Blu-Ray -- Blu-Ray is the standard optical drive for PS3 while Xbox 360 didnt do the same to HD-DVD -- which lead to the current outcome. Blu-Ray also had much support from some big name like Wal-mart, NetFlix and Best Buy, which is what HD-DVD and Toshiba lacks.
While Hollywood studios like Warner Brothers had already stated that it'll exclusively support Blu-Ray, others that initially support the HD-DVD format, like Universal, had been confirmed - changing their format from HD-DVD to Blu-Ray DVD.
Now we can all enjoy Transformers In Blu-Ray DVD Format. Cheers.
Yet another problem still persist... Blu-Ray is still soo freakin expensive. Blah. With the main rival going down, Blu-Ray prices is gonna drop later-than-sooner. Geez.

Yahoo Rejects Microsoft's "Marriage Proposal"!!!
Status: Normal
BGM: Konna ni Chikaku de - Crystal Kay
Yahoo says no. Microsoft in 'tears'.
Crushed are their dreams to access Yahoo's 50 million user database, where they will attempt in using it to compete with Google. I guess Microsoft wont stop until they monopolize everything they could.
Guess now the peoples in Google are happily partying now. lol. Before this they have planned to thwart Microsoft's plan for revenge. Microsoft had almost crushed Google's wish in acquiring the online ad company, DoubleClick, in a 1.2 billion deal. Now Google can take a short rest... but not for long.
Why?
Because it seems like Microsoft would not give up that easily (considering their past records), and although Yahoo had initially rejected the deal, they might still consider the merge... if Microsoft can offer more cash. Seems like there's still possibility for the born of "Micro-Hoo" ( Micro-soft + Ya-Hoo ) ...
Well, given the situation how advanced our computer era is now, there's a saying that goes like, "If Microsoft were to start over all again today, they dare not put up the price tags on their software like what they does now. This is the age of freeware."
Guess that only time would tell. Whatever the outcome is, it seems like the consumer are the one that will take on the results. So let us wish that one day, freeware will force Microsoft to lower their software prices.

Sun-U WLAN SUCKS
Status > Miserable =A=;;;
BGM > Apologize - One Republic feat Timbaland
Connect... Disconnect... Connect... Disconnect... Connect... Disconnect... ARGH. Why cant the freaking Sunway-U WLAN juz stop doin so? It's soo damn freaking annoying!
Speaking of which... well... now it connects again. Let's juz hope it wont die down again.
Such is the reliabilty of Wireless Connections. Wonder when could wireless connection be on the same stability standards as the hardline connections? Do we have to WAIT until the age of Quantum Computing?
Hell knows when it's gonna disconnect again. God bless it.

Gaming Industry is wierd...
Well, it seems like I finally realize how the patents for certain gaming technologies can caused some real fuss.
Creating a game today is no more fun or easy. Be aware that u might be sued by some bloody big gaming company trying to protect their supposed 'brainchild', when u make a small game and it unexpectedly got wildly popular.
For example, Gamemakers Midway sued/charged company from SEGA to Microsoft to EA for using the 'virtual car-driving' simulation model they created back at 1989. =A=;;;
These people are just really money-minded.
Why things just cant go the easy way?

Windows Vista? Windows XP?
Argh.
This is soo fustrating.
Vista is nice and safe, It's cool, colorful and convinience in some way. But! it eats up soo much of memory it's not funny. And when u're trying to rush on something the security system really gives u a big bad headache. And let's not talk about it's steep learning curve, while having bunch of compability issues. I thought it was supposed to be user friendly! *or maybe it's just me?*
On the another side, XP is reliable, simple, easy to use, and dont require a lot of memory. It doesnt have the silly compability issues too. But! the security on it is like, non-existance. And somehow being simple could be part of the turn-off mechanism too. Sheeesh.
WHICH ONE IS BETTER?!

Web in Chaos
Sometimes things that benefits us much could turn over and stab us in the back. Like the Internet.
Edison Chen is learning this the hard way. Hundreds of his explicit sex photos with other famous female celebrities are being circulated around the web. Now he and the female celebs are in real deep shyt. And let's not talk about how bad it'll influence their reputations.
Who's gonna be the next victim?

Finally!
I've got my Laptop! Finally! After all the hardworks in persuasing my parents for like, 6 months, I finally laid my hand on it! XD What a wonderful CNY for me! XD
Wheeee... No more boring break time in college anymore! XD
And I could utilize my new laptop for my Comtech Course! XD
Now that I have my laptop, all sorts of things could be done... and it's gonna give me more excitement in my college life. =D
On the other note, I'll say that computer course is a pretty good/ convinient reason to convince the parents for buying a new comp. Heh.

Web 2.0... Now it's talking.
Have you ever been asked this question which goes like: "What's Web 2.0?"
Being asked and like, not sure how to answer?
Well no worries. Web 2.0's doesnt have a exact and perfect defination.
Taking a look back to the time of Web 1.0... it's basically like, webpages are only written by the computing professionals, and all the infos shared are basically one-sided, as the info is provided but rarely with feedback or so on. And most of the world is basically run by the old 56k slow modem (slow in today's term)... This is the early stage of Internet. Kinda dull huh?
Well, the Internet keeps on improve and it reached a stage where normal people like you and I could start to post something on the internet. Now we can share things online and receive feedback of it. Now we can keep in contact with our distant friend constantly, thanks to social network websites such as myspace, friendster, Facebook, etc. This is web 2.0, and this is the new era of Internet.
Funny that we are now utilizing this 'web 2.0' thingy soo much when most of us doesn't even have an idea what it is. LOL.
And about how the word 'web 2.0' sprung to life, Tim O'Reilly brought the word up at a conference... it was mention before that but at the conference the word 'web 2.0' really came in life in everyone in the world. It was said that web 2.0 is referred as "Internet age run by connection speed of 1.0mbps"... Sounds quite true.
Web 3.0 might be coming soon, when the world is literally running with 10mbps connection speed as the general speed. It'll be the age of Video. Haha.

Reflectio
Having wacthed 2 vids about the awkward realationship between technologies and education, i cant help but to think about the issue seriously... (maybe)
Seriously talking, it seems like the educational system is unable to catch up with the fast and ever changing technological world. While e-learning are starting to get more popular, teachers around the world arent able to adapt to it. They still have the old way of teaching as their favorite preferences, as it was much easier.
Talk about the common (old) way of teaching, it's juz like the teacher is spoon-feeding the students with whatever they feel it is neccessary, or according to the official outline, regardless of the student's capabilities and interest. Recently, the more trendy way of teaching is helping the students to learn of their interest, in their own pace, which is much harder when being executed.
Here's the video that are being mentioned. Have a good look at them.
A vision of students today
A vision of K-12 students today
Nothing is gonna be easy, but we wont know what can we achieve or have done before we really try our best at doing so.
It's the nature of human to be lazy or choose the easier way.

A proper intro?
Okay. the 1st post is actually more like a joke, pratically typed out of fun and to fill the blog with something. Bleh.
So far i've managed to find the proper template and the layout for the title (let's hope Square-Enix wont sue me for this). I've decided to put up Sephiroth... because i love the way he's behaving. I known he's a villian but he's just too darn cool to be ignored. XD
Well, I've just gained access to Google Documents... and guess what, it was better than I thought. I don't usually have high expectations for anything related to technologies these days (been having too much dissapointment related mostly to gaming... alot of games are not as good as they are being shown on the trailer).
Having said about that, now that I've got alot to rant about. It seems like alot of game makers is putting too much effort on their game trailers... to the extend where the game was outshone by the trailers... i would prefer there put as much effort on developing the game as like how they put the effort on developing the trailers.
To cut the story short, dont try to have high expectations on some seemingly cool trailers that will put us into awe. Most of the time the game arent as good as it was shown on the trailers.
That's all, for now.
